About George expédition H. M. Lawrence: Dr. Lawrence was the founding director in 1960 of theHunt Botanical Library, now the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, atCarnegie‐Mellon University in Pittsburgh, and become director emeritus when heretired in 1970. He recently completed, a bibliographical catalogue of theinstitutes Linnaean collection. He wasnamed a fellow of the Linnean Society of London in May.Before founding the Hunt library, he had been for manyyears a professor of botany at Cornell University and director of the BaileyHortorium there. He received degrees from Cornell and from Rhode Island StateCollege, and was the author of two standard textbooks on botany: “Taxonomy ofVascular Plants” and “Introduction to Plant Taxonomy.”
